Review: Handmade Dumplings and Noodles
East Cobb finally got some decent dumplings. We went a few months ago but just got around to doing a post about them. Handmade Dumplings and Noodles is a new joint offering, well, the name is self-explanatory. It’s owned by the same person behind Firestone, which happens to be one of my favorite Sichuan spots in the area. So, I have fewer excuses to make the trek across town for good Chinese.
There’s a handful of different dumpling varieties you can order steamed or pan fried, lo-mein, specialty noodles, fried rice, veggies, and even a handmade Chinese burger filled with either cumin beef or braised pork.
We ordered pork and cabbage pan-fried dumplings, beef and carrot pan-fried dumplings, cumin beef grandma noodles, and Sichuan French fries. I know the fries aren’t currently on the menu anymore, but they were replaced by dry-fried eggplant, which I prefer. If it’s anything like the Firestone version, I’m here for the replacement.
The dumplings were excellent. When you order, they tell you that it’ll take around 15 minutes to come out since they’re made to order. All the dumplings come in quantities of 10, and they’re decently sized, nicely pan fried with a juicy and flavorful filling. The only comparison I have would be Northern China Eatery (but these are bigger and wrappers are a bit thinner). Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, and between my kid and me we could only finish 8 dumplings.
At $12 and change, the cumin beef grandma noodles were great in terms of quality and quantity. I didn’t expect that much cumin beef. Noodles were wide, slightly thick with a nice chew the way it should be. Spicy, but not too much. I enjoyed eating leftovers for three days straight, that’s how big this item was.
Handmade Dumplings & Noodles can hold their own, and compete with the rest of them in the ATL area. Not just “great for East Cobb”, but great in general. Go out of your way to give them a try.
